Acne Treatment
Acne Cyst
Acne cyst is the outcome of a bacterial infection of cysts inside the skin and
one of the more severe types of acne. An acne cyst is pus-filled and can sometimes evolve to the size of a dime. Cyst may develop singly or be widespread over the face, neck, scalp, back, chest and shoulders. They can also be painful. Acne cysts are nodules of inflammation.
Scarring is common with cystic acne. Squeezing an acne cyst may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which will last much longer than if you had left it alone. Dermatologists often have ways of lessening swelling and preventing scarring.
To decrease inflammation and bacteria, dermatologists normally prescribe antibiotics which are powerful so as to reduce outbreaks of acne and the resultant spread. Treatment for cystic acne is lengthy and normally takes at least 6 months. Improvement is usually seen within 2 months of commencing treatment. In some cases laser therapy may be suggested. Cosmetic surgery is advised to patients as a last resort when there is severe scarring due to cystic acne.
